"Those
who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that last
as long as life endures." Rachel Carson
Margaret's landscapes are all painted en plein air. Working on site forces one
to react quickly to the subject. She lets the landscape speak to her and dictate
the style in which she will work. It is impossible to paint wet into wet in
the desert or on dry paper in northern Maine. After working on location for
about four hours Margaret returns to the studio where she studies the painting
and reinforces the values and colors in order to create a painting and not be
just a slave to the view in front of her. In the studio is where the brain takes
over from the heart.
